WCEC MAKING PLANS FOR ETREYS
Wood County Electric Cooperative, Inc. along with eight other east Texas cooperatives are
making plans for the 18th annual East Texas Rural Electric Youth Seminar (ETREYS) scheduled
for June 26-30 at Stephen F. Austin State University in Nacogdoches.
ETREYS is designed to foster positive ideas and values among young people and to enhance skills in leadership, problem-solving and interpersonal relationships in a wholesome environment.
High school sophomores and juniors attending schools in the WCEC service area are eligible to participate. Participants are selected on the basis of overall excellence with all expenses paid by WCEC. The seminar consists of workshops, presentations and peer group activities. Several functions and free-time activities are also planned to develop friendships and provide fun and relaxation.
The seminar is held yearly on the campus of Stephen F. Austin State University in Nacogdoches, Texas. The campus spans an impressive 400 acres where magnificent pines tower over beautifully landscaped grounds and buildings.
Speakers include nationally-known personalities, college professors and community leaders. The session topics range from leadership development to pure entertainment.
ETREYS offers students a chance to develop their interpersonal skills while competing with each other for over $5,000 in scholarships. Everyone that attends the seminar has the opportunity to leave better equipped to take leadership roles in their schools and community.
Students interested in applying for the program should contact Carolyn Burns at 903-763-2203 or email at carolynb@wcec.org or their high school counselor.
