BE AWARE OF YOUR SURROUNDINGS

On Monday evening, October 17th, around 5:00 p.m., a tree was knocked into

AEP/SWEPCO transmission lines which feed five Wood County Electric Cooperative

substations. Apparently, the tree was pushed into the transmission lines by a bull dozer south

of the Clearwater area. As the tree fell into the transmission lines, WCEC substations

went down in areas located around East Point, Pine Mills, Winnsboro, Mt. Vernon, and

Morris Chapel.

Over 5,300 members lost power when this occurred. Power was restored to members

by 6:15 p.m. the same day and we appreciate your patience and understanding during this

situation. In light of this, we want to remind everyone to be careful around power lines as your

safety is very important to us. Whether you are operating heavy machinery or flying a kite always

be aware of your surroundings and put safety first.

If you have any questions about operating safely around power lines or are concerned that

a power line might be un-safe, please feel free to call us at 903-763-2203. We are here to serve you.
