Quitman, Texas, July 12, 2005 - Wood County Electric Cooperative is happy to announce that two students
won scholarships at the 2005 East Texas Rural Electric Youth Seminar held at Stephen F. Austin University in
Nacogdoches, June 27-July 1. They are Macie Rushing and Keelyn Swoape.
Macie, a Quitman high school student, won a $750 scholarship and is the daughter of Darrell and Pam Rushing.
She serves as representative of the Student Council and participates in UIL events that include CX debate,
Extemporaneous Speaking, Current Events, Editorial Writing and Informative Speaking. She participates in
Varsity Basketball and Cross Country.
Keelyn Swoape, an Alba-Golden high school student, won a $500 scholarship and is the son of Ralph and
Sherri Swoape. He is member of Student Council, Honor Band, FFA, Spanish Club and Drama Club. He serves
as Class President and has received awards in all the activities that he participates in.
Ashlee Gambill was chosen to represent WCEC as a Youth Director at the 2006 seminar and Kacie Sherrard
was chosen as alternate Youth Director in the event Ashlee cannot serve.
Other students that particpated in the 2005 ETREYS Seminar were: Diana Cerrito, Katie Cleveland, Bailey Delp,
Daniel Gambill, Brittany Hicks and Patrick Pace.
The East Texas Rural Electric Youth Seminar is designed to foster positive ideas and values among young people,
enhance leadership skills, and teach cooperative philosophy. WCEC and eight other east Texas cooperatives sponsor
the event annually.
